Before an appointment is made, I will briefly speak with you by phone to initially assess the compatibility of your needs/goals with what I offer, and to gauge the possibility of beginning a therapeutic relationship.
If you are using insurance, please check with your insurance provider beforehand to make sure that I am considered to be an in-network provider for your specific plan. I am a participating provider for Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, MultiPlan, PHCS, and POMCO and I am considered to be in-network for many of their plans. If you have a different insurance provider, of if I am not considered to be in-network with your plan, check to see if you have out-of-network benefits. Your insurance plan may require a referral from a primary care physician or prior authorization before seeking counseling services. I recommend that you speak with your insurance company before calling so that you know about their requirements and procedures.
The next step will be to schedule an initial appointment. During this appointment, I will speak with you in more depth about your concerns, gather background information, and we will talk about your goals and the best course of action moving forward.
During our initial meeting(s), as I am getting to know you and am hearing about the difficulties you would like help with, I will be assessing if my experiences, expertise, and therapeutic approach are a good match to help you with the problems you want to address.
It is also important during our initial meeting(s) for you to decide if you want to work with me. Do you feel comfortable with me? Do you like my therapeutic approach and are you willing to try what I suggest? As therapy is a big commitment on your part, it is important that you select a therapist who is a good fit. Please feel free to ask me any questions you feel will help you to make your decision.
When we set up the first appointment, I will give you access to my client portal so that you can view and sign all the needed forms before we meet for the first time.
