Before an appointment is made, I will briefly speak with you by phone to initially assess the compatibility of your needs/goals with what I offer, and to gauge the possibility of beginning a therapeutic relationship.
If you plan to use insurance, I will need the information on your insurance card so I can check with your insurance company to make sure your benefits will cover our work together. I am a participating provider for Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, MultiPlan, PHCS, and POMCO. If you have a different insurance provider, check with your insurance because sometime they will provide out-of-network benefits. Your insurance plan may require a referral from a primary care physician or prior authorization before seeking counseling services. I recommend that you speak with your insurance company before calling so that you know about their requirements and procedures.
The next step will be to schedule an initial consultation. During this consultation, I will speak with you in more depth about your concerns and gather background information. Depending on how much there is to cover, we may need another appointment or two to finish the consultation.
During our initial meeting(s), as I am getting to know you and am hearing about the difficulties you would like help with, I will be assessing if my experiences, expertise, and therapeutic approach are a good match to help you with the problems you want to address.
It is also important during our initial meeting(s) for you to decide if you want to work with me. Do you feel comfortable with me? Do you like my therapeutic approach and are you willing to try what I suggest? As therapy is a big commitment on your part, it is important that you select a therapist who is a good fit. Please feel free to ask me any questions you feel will help you to make your decision.
